Tell the truth and love everybody: the history of Ram Dass (Richard Alpert) and Neem Karoli Baba [VIDEO]

September 20, 2013

The history of how american physician, Richard Alpert, PhD in Psychiatry, turned into spiritual teacher Baba Ram Dass, from meeting Timothy Leary and going into psychedelic drugs in the 70s to meeting his indian guru Neem Karoli Baba (uncertain date of birth – 1973) are in the short movie “Love Serve Remember“, produced and directed by V Owen Bush (Glowing Pictures) and fully available below (21min). The movie brings Ram Dass himself narrating some essential facts of his life, especially how he was touched in the heart of unconditional love by his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, and how he came to create some of the main messages of his work, like “Be Here Now” and “Love Serve Remember“.

It is a rich and grand testimonial of how a restless western guy finds his way and meets the embodiment of the answer he looks for. One of the richest aspects of his narration is the perspective of the differences between the west and the east, “how we in the west have no idea of these exceptional people“.  Sitting on a chair with his hawaiian shirt over a wooden background, Ram Dass talks about his life, his masters and his moment with calm and gratitude, and can inspire us to walk a meaningful walk, here now.

“He was right here, and he was looking at me with unconditional love. Unconditional love. And I had never never looked at with unconditional love, by my parents, from my friends, by my lovers, not by anybody. I felt love. I felt love. And I felt something happening in my heart.”
~ Ram Dass, in “Love Serve Remember” (short movie)
